At the University of Portsmouth Football Club we have a clear aim to improve performance across the board from the first team to the intra-mural leagues. A generic coaching programme for all six teams has been devised for the whole season to ensure that all players in the club get the same quality guidance from the Soccerrette Academy’s UEFA qualified coaches. A match analysis tool has also been developed so that team-specific weaknesses can be improved on in training. Intra-mural players will have the chance to play regular 11-a-side football every weekend – captains and coaches being required to watch these matches on a regular basis in order to recruit players who deserve a place in one of the club’s representative Wednesday teams. Opportunities will be given for all players to join the University of Portsmouth Football Club, a new detailed player analysis sheet will aid each player during open trial sessions, covering a variety of performance components; to increase the objectivity of observations. Equal and unbiased judgements will always be made on all players’ performances into which level of football they are to be entered into, ensuring that every player is playing at the standard which their playing development merits.
