The University of Portsmouth currently has four junior community football teams. 3 girls’ teams, age groups’ U10, U12, U14 and a boys team U10.

The Girls Club was established 3 years ago through a selection of girls chosen to represent Portsmouth at the Hampshire Youth Games. From this they were entered into the Mid Solent youth league. Each year since a new team has formed to firstly compete at the games then in the league.

If you would like to play more football and are between the ages of 8 and 14 come and try our open training session at Furze Lane

Our sessions are fun and open to anyone who wants to play football.

Aims of the Club

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for youths to participate in competitive football.
  • Promote physical exercise for girls and boys
  • Provide pathways for young players into football
  • Increase awareness amongst young people of educational and sporting opportunities available at university.
  • Provide opportunities for those involved in the club to gain coaching qualifications and experience.

Training

All our training sessions are lead by FA qualified coaches who are CRB checked. Sessions are designed to develop individual ability, fitness as well as team tactics and organisation

Code of Conduct

  • Arrive on time or inform your team manager if you are running late. You may not be selected if you don’t train, unless you have a genuine reason.
  • Arrive prepared by wearing appropriate training kit and bringing refreshments.
  • Come to training with the willingness to train hard, don’t waste the time and effort of coaches by not putting in 100%.
  • Respect each other and the coaches.

Match Days

You will be required to wear shin pads and football boots. You will need to be wearing your kit ready to play, Your kit will be your responsibility for the season. If you decide to leave the club your kit must be returned to your coach.

Things to remember for match days:

  • As a member of the University of Portsmouth Football Club you are representing the University of Portsmouth, we ask that you take pride in yourself and the club.
  • Inform your team manager if you have transport difficulties or expect that you may be late.
  • Ensure that you have prepared yourself before the match by having enough to eat and drink.
  • Be organised, arrive at the venue on time with the correct kit.
  • Bring the correct attitude, no negativity and lots of self-belief.

How to find our ground

Take the A2030 Eastern Road into Portsmouth (signed ‘Portsmouth East’) whether approaching from the east (A3(M)/A27) or the west (M27). NB if approaching from M27 ignore junction signed to M275.

Continue along the A2030 through several sets of traffic lights to the junction by Liningtons Renault Garage. Turn left along Milton Road keeping in the left lane. After the zebra crossing take the fourth road left into Locksway Road just before the next set of traffic lights. Continue along Locksway Road and turn left into Furze Lane.

Away Fixtures

It is not the clubs responsibility to provide transport for away fixtures. For those that have transport issues it may be possible to make arrangements with other members of the club.

Parents & Spectators

We actively encourage parents and family members to support our teams on match days, however to ensure that the reputation of the club is upheld we expect spectators to adhere to the following code of conduct.

Encourage you child to play according to the laws of the game.

  1. Emphasise respect for referees by not publicly questioning the referee’s honesty or decision-making.
  2. Condemn bad behaviour and bad language.
  3. Acknowledge the value and importance of volunteer coaches and referees.
  4. Applaud the opposition as well as your own team.
  5. Always give positive encouragement towards all of the players.
  6. Avoid coaching the child during the game.
  7. The emphasis of enjoyment and competing fairly should be encouraged

Players Code of Conduct

Like all good clubs we adhere to a few ground rules which we respect and maintain at all times;

  • Make every effort to develop their own sporting abilities, in terms of skill technique, tactics and stamina.
  • Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance during a game.
  • Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
  • Avoid all forms of gamesmanship, and time wasting.
  • Not use inappropriate language.
  • Make every effort consistent with fair play and the Laws of the Game to help her own team win.
  • Know and abide by the Laws, rules and spirit of the game, and the competition rules.
  • Accept success and failure victory and defeat equally.
  • Avoid violence and rough play, and help injured players.
  • Accept the decision of the match official without protest.
  • Treat opponents with due respect at all times.
  • Abide by the instructions of their coach and Team Officials.
